RARE & NICE Mauser Model 937-A Portugese Contract 8mm
In 1937-38 Mauser produced a contract rifle for Portugal based on a slightly modified 98k design. They had a unique front sight, and sling configuration. They were built in two batches totaling about 100,000 rifles. Last imported as surplus in the 1960's most of these rifles had condition issues and long ago dried up from the market. This example comes from an old estate collection and is far above and beyond the normal condition these rifles are found in when they can be found! The rifle is completely numbers matching down to each screw. The bore is MINT, and the stock shows just some minor wear and dings from storage and use. The bluing is rich and deep and shows the pre-war quality of fit and finish that later Mauser rifles do not have. There are a few areas in the bluing that have some wear and old issues, like on the front sling side mount, and the loop on the trigger guard that are no longer perfect, but for the most part this rifle looks to have seen very little use or abuse and presents very well. Be sure to look over the pictures as they tell the story on this rare and interesting variation!
