NICE Polish M44 Mosin Nagant Carbine 7.62x54r
Of all the various countries that built copies of the Russian Mosin Nagant M44 Carbines, some of the nicest examples for fit and finish are those made in Poland. This specimen has a dual history... Part of it known and part of it a mystery. This carbine started out being built in Poland in 1952. All the numbers match, it has a bright, shiny and tight bore and near 100% bluing, as well as a discreet import marking on the bottom of the barrel. At some point in time it was sold or sent as aid to some other nation, possibly in the middle east, or another eastern European country. It looks to have gone through a rebuild or refurbishment in that country. The stock and bluing look to be other than the usual work seen on Polish examples. If only this nice carbine could talk, we might be able to identify its last owners. That is the mystery. However the refurbishment of the stock looks similar to work done in Romania... But we are not sure. Whoever it was that refurbished it, we suspect it had not been issued since that refurb work, before being imported to the US. It displays very well, and makes for an interesting addition to any cold war era collection.
