Here is a super rare opportunity to own a bit of history and shoot one of the most fun rifles you will ever experience!  This great Traning Rifle started life in 1910, where it surely saw service in WW1.  After the war it was converted into a 22LR Caliber trainer, and used to train New Zealand troops for WW2 and Korea!  These unusual rifles with the NZ (New Zealand) markings are rather rare, and are so often in poor condition.  This one comes out of an old collection, and was probably imported to the US back in the early 1960s.  The condition is amazing.   The last (NZ Issued) one of these to sell on Gunbroker went for over $800 and was not half as nice as this one!!!!
Outwardly this looks, and feels, like any other No.1 pattern Enfield.  But when you look closely, you see that it is outfitted as a single shot 22.  A new barrel, and a special bolt head were installed during the rebuild.  A rather unique magazine was also modified to serve NOT as a feed device, but as a catcher for the spent casings.
During the conversion, the old numbers were lined out, and new numbers applied.  All of these numbers match.  The conversion was done in 1927, and the stock disc shows acceptance by the New Zealand Military in 1928.
The bore is sharp, bright, and clean... It shines like a mirror!
Shooting these is a unique experience for sure.  With a small round like the .22LR in such a large and heavy rifle, there is ZERO recoil, and the firing pin dropping makes almost more noise than the round going off!!!   These are also known for their accuracy.
It is not often one of these shows up for sale, and even less common to find one in such amazing un-messed with condition.  The stock shows the usual small dents and dings from being over 100 years old, and used in both a war and to train thousands of soldiers.  But these are all part of the history, Nobody has ever refinished or messed up this stock!  The rifle still wears the volley sights on the left side, that were so often removed on later issued versions of the No.1 pattern rifles!  The brass unit disc, and butt plate show an old patina, and the metal a pleasing mixture of mostly original bluing with some aged patina.   Look over the pictures, they tell the story on this one!
