Finding nice unmessed with WW2 German 98k Rifles is getting harder & harder to do. This one comes from an old collection and is really nice! It is from the Czech Arsenal of Waffenwerke Brunn I and made during the German occupation. As such it bears the secret Nazi Code "dot" and the year designation "43" for 1943. 1943 was the first year of production of the 98k at Brunn I.
This example is from the "t" serial range in 43 and has all the proper markings and inspection stamps for this era. All the numbered parts are matching except for the bolt that matches itself. Interestingly the Rifle is serial number is 4958 t and the bolt is 4952 u... or just about 10,000 rifles later than this rifle and is also a "dot" made bolt. (The bolt head spaces fine) The condition matches the rifle well, and the two look to have been together for a long time. As you can see in the pictures this rifle has the proper and correct stock markings and matched numbers, and shows no signs of any refinishing work. The stock does not have an "Eagle H" acceptance stamp on the side as is correct for 1943 dot production. Also of note is that the stock is of the white glue laminated variety. The bore in this rifle is very nice, bright, shiny and tight at the muzzle with just a slight trace of wear. This is really a nice rifle, and if it were not for the mismatched bolt numbers would easily be priced at double what we have it listed for!
