This is a rather rare enfield! This is the first pattern of the famous No1 Mk1 enfields rifles. Before the 1920's Britain did not use the No 1 designation for these rifles. These are known as the Mark 1 or Mk1 pattern. This example built in 1907 has the early style stripper clip guide. This pattern does not have the receiver bridge stripper guide of later rifles. It has a two part stripper guide.... One part on the left receiver wall, and the other half is attached to the bolt head, and is moved into place when the bolt is fully retracted. This pattern was found to be too complicated and later rifles were built with the traditional bridge stripper guide.
This example has no doubt seen service in WW1, and at some point in the 1920's was one of just 4000 rifles reworked and issued to the Irish Army as evidenced by the new serial number beginning with the CR letter prefix. All the numbered parts of the rifle match this serial number. The rifle still has the volley sights attached, and the unusual tapered ears front sight protector of the early pattern! The bore is bright, shiny and tight at the muzzle with just a faint few traces of light frosting. The pictures tell the story on this great old rifle that is over 100 years old so be sure to zoom in and have a good look at it. It has no import markings at all, and comes with a period correct original sling.
